Final Phase of Coliseum Makeover Underway

renderingsThe City of Greensboro recently awarded an $8 million contract for the final phase of Greensboro Coliseum renovations. The final phase involves expansion and enhancement of the upper level concourse and all new concession areas and restrooms. Work is now under way and is scheduled for completion by March 2014.

"We're very much looking forward to finishing our major Coliseum renovation project," said Scott Johnson, deputy director of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.  "Guests have been thrilled with our giant new video scoreboard and new wider cushioned seats thus far, and we know they will be excited when we finish the extensive concourse upgrades."

The Greensboro Coliseum Complex, one of the largest and most versatile sports and entertainment complexes in the U.S., has undergone an array of changes since the last U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Major new features include the addition of the ACC Hall of Champions, the Greensboro Aquatic Center and The Terrace (an 11,000sf hospitality and entertainment space). The Coliseum itself has benefitted from all new seats, new digital videoboard, new concession stands, new VIP suites, widened concourses, the addition of a Wyndham-branded entertainment space and Natty Greene's Pub with an interior view of the arena.

"Greensboro city leaders and management at the Coliseum Complex are to be commended for delivering a practically new venue," said Hill Carrow, chairman of the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. "Figure Skating fans are going to love it!"

Staff and Volunteers Promoting the Big Event

You might think the summer would be a slow time for figure skating activity, but in reality this has been a very busy period for your 2015 U.S. Championships promotions team. From one-on-one meetings to community-wide business networking events, the staff and volunteers of North Carolina 2015, Local Organizing Committee of the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, have been traveling the state-and beyond!-to promote the Championships.

Last week, the Greensboro Partnership, comprised of key business and community leaders in the greater Greensboro market enjoyed Hill Carrow's business presentation on the U.S. Championships. (In 2011 the Greensboro Partnership, and 10 companies represented by current Partnership Board members, were local sponsors of the U.S. Championships, so this is a very important group!) Over the last several weeks 2015 Ambassadors Paul Brown and Rosalee Brewer have talked up the U.S. Championships at community networking events, interns Kylie Reeves and Shane Lau  co-hosted a booth at a regionwide Chamber of Commerce gathering and Ambassador Scott Cudmore has even worked to build the buzz for the Championships at figure skating events in Florida.
