2015 Sweeper Team Selected

2015-SweepersOn May 17, 124 skaters between ages 8 and 13 descended on Hillsborough, N.C., to audition to be ice sweepers at the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. The skaters came from 10 North and South Carolina figure skating clubs as well as several local Basic Skills programs. The clubs represented were Carolinas FSC, Triangle FSC, Skating Club of North Carolina, Greenville FSC, Central Carolina Skating Club, Summit FSC, Silver Star FSC, Port City Skating Club, Skating Club of Charleston and Palmetto Skate Club.

Forty-two skaters were selected by five officials who were in town for a local non-qualifying competition and volunteered their time to judge the auditions. Jamye Gaster, figure skating director for the Triangle Sportsplex, led the auditions on-ice, while Scott Cudmore, president of the Triangle FSC, organized the on-ice requirements and judge selections leading up the auditions.

Ticket Packages to Move to Ticketmaster

tickets-blueOn Friday, June 27 , ticket package sales processing will move from the offices of North Carolina 2015 to Ticketmaster. Thanks to the hundreds of thousands of ticket purchasers in Ticketmaster's database and that of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, this move will help "juice" 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships ticket package sales as we enter the summer, normally a slower time for such sales. On the 27th, U.S. Championships ticket packages will be available for the first time for purchase online as well as at the Greensboro Coliseum box office. The move will also pave the way for Ticketmaster to launch individual ticket sales nationally in September.

To date, ticket packages for the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships have been sold in 44 states and three foreign countries.

Sponsors Enjoy Spring Workshop

workshopsThe 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships sponsor team gathered on Thursday, May 1, at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex for the Spring Sponsor Workshop. The workshop provided sponsors with helpful information about the U.S. Championships that enables them to maximize their sponsorship experience.

Sponsors were provided an update on the latest preparations for the Championships. There were also presentations and discussions on sponsor benefits, tickets, corporate and group seating opportunities, public relations and key dates leading into the big event.  In a collaborative session, sponsors pooled ideas on how they could work together to maximize the social media footprint of the 2015 U.S Championships.

"We always get a lot out of these sponsor workshops," said Malinda Pengelly, president of BEM, which developed and manages the 2015 U.S. Championships website. "The sessions are an invaluable help for our sponsorship planning and execution, and the shared ideas and team building with the other sponsors are highly beneficial as well."

"The goal of our sponsor workshop is to give our sponsors all the tools they need to be successful," said Hill Carrow, chairman of North Carolina 2015. "We have an outstanding group of sponsors and they have given us very positive feedback on these sessions. We have one more workshop scheduled in November before the Championships get under way in January."

Opening Ceremony Planning Underway

daniellePlanning for the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships is well under way. Skaters from figure skating clubs across North Carolina will participate in this showcase event.

The Opening Ceremony for the 2015 U.S. Championships is likely to move to a more traditional Thursday position leading into the championship ladies short program, a switch from the 2011 event when the Opening Ceremony was held Wednesday night.

Danielle Logano, director of Extreme Ice in Indian Trail, N.C., has been named Opening Ceremony director. Logano has a script in development and is working with NC clubs on breaking the program into segments that will allow for three separate rehearsal locations in Charlotte, Greensboro/Hillsborough and Wake Forest, making preparations for the Opening Ceremony more geographically convenient for the participants.

"I am thrilled to be directing the 2015 U.S. Championships Opening Ceremony," said Logano. "This is an outstanding opportunity for our state to shine and our program will be designed to do just that."

Logano, who is the sister of NASCAR driver Joey Logano, has not yet ruled out a NASCAR vehicle on the ice as one of the show elements!
